Hodgdon CFE 223 Smokeless Powder

Introduced in January 2012, this versatile, spherical rifle propellant incorporates in its formula CFE, Copper Fouling Eraser. This ingredient, originally used in military propellant, greatly deters copper fouling. It contributes to longer periods of top accuracy with less barrel cleaning time. Being a spherical powder, metering is superbly accurate. CFE 223 yields top velocities in many cartridges such as the 204 Ruger, 223 Remington/5.56mm NATO, 22-250 Remington and the 308 Winchester/7.62mm NATO, plus many, many more. Match, Varmint and AR shooters will love this one!

    Have been using it for years in AR cartridges to reduce copper fouling and 6 months ago tried it 223 heavy barrel match rifle with 80 eld’s, surprisingly got single digit AD’s once load got worked up.

    Bought this powder for use in .223 Remington. Had used H335 with good success but this powder was highly touted. It does meter well (digital electronic powder dispenser) compared to extruded powders. Was trying to get hyper velocity with 53 gr. Hornady V-Max bullets in 1>9 twist bolt gun. Not impressed with results – seems I went the wrong way for bullet wt. and twist. Slowed down the velocity to 3233 fps with 28 gr. of CFE223 and shot 4 of 5 rnd group miked at 0.1870 (excl. 1` “called” ‘flyer’ stretching it an oblong oval at 0.3920). Would like to move up in bullet wt. & check results but I have 400+ 53 gr. V-Max to shoot up first (with this powder). This rifle (Howa 1500 tgt/vmt 20″ HB in B&C tact stock) really likes 60 gr. bullets with H335 (0.196″ 3 rnd group). FWIW – 53 gr. bullets perform poorly in 90 degree X-wind >5-10 mph (group sizes can double +)
