The story of Barnes Bullets began in 1932 when Fred Barnes started selling bullets from his humble basement workshop in Bayfield, CO. In 1974, Randy and Coni Brooks acquired the company, relocating it to American Fork, Utah. Drawing upon their deep love for hunting and armed with a strong determination to excel, Randy and Coni sought guidance from Fred Barnes himself during the initial stages of their ownership.

While hunting brown bears in the Alaskan wilderness during the autumn of 1985, Randy had a groundbreaking revelation—a vision of an expanding all-copper bullet. Initially met with skepticism from Coni, the idea of eliminating lead gained momentum as Randy's prototypes consistently delivered impressive results in the field. The outcome of their relentless pursuit was the iconic X Bullet®, a game-changer in bullet construction and terminal performance.

The launch of the X Bullet in 1989 marked a new era of innovation for Barnes Bullets, solidifying our position as an industry leader.
